24 hour Mexican food. Need I say mas? Living in the OC, it can sometimes be a challenge finding those late night restaurants or 24 hour spots. My first introduction to Taqueria De Anda was after a very late night of karaoke in Fullerton. You cannot go wrong with greasy, spicy authentic street tacos to absorb the beer and soju!
De Anda is a fast food, walk up and order place. Like many traditional taquerias, the menu is basic: tacos, burritos, rice, beans and chips. Watch the cooks warm up your tortillas and scoop up your meat of choice from the flat top griddle. Meats from a taqueria are nicely seasoned and chopped up small and served either plain or with onion, cilantro, and choice of salsa. Everything is fresh with that just-made taste. It’s 24 hour Mexican food done right.
Street tacos are smaller than what you would normally get in a sit down restaurant. These are the ideal size for sampling: order several to try out all the different meats. Choices of meat are: carne asada (beef steak), al pastor (BBQ pork), lengua (beef tongue), cabeza (beef head), pollo (chicken), carnitas (fried pork), or buche (fried pork stomach). My favorites are the carne asada and the al pastor, but they are all tasty. The scoop of meat is a generous portion on top of two soft tortillas. You also get a choice of green or red salsa: I like them both but the red is pretty spicy. There is also a salsa/condiment bar so you can load up your tacos yourself. The grilled jalapeños and onions are so good! You can also order burritos with any of the meats with beans, rice, onion, and cilantro. The burritos are big and substantial so the kids can easily split one (when you bring the kids earlier in the day). The beans are rich and creamy, making the bean and cheese burrito another good option. They also serve beer and wine at the Lake Forest location, but all the locations have great aguas frescas, which really hit the spot when you are parched from signing and drinking!
Their horchata is muy delicioso – a sweet and cinnamony rice drink, and and the tamarindo drink is a tangy, sweet and tart Mexican classic drink. Both are so good and refreshing to wash down all that spicy and salty deliciousness! We are giving our followers fair warning: there will be many posts and reviews on Mexican food, especially on taquerias. Not only are there so many outstanding places, but we LOVE Mexican food! Taqueria De Anda is expanding throughout the OC Tustin coming soon), but beware that not all locations are 24 hours. Santa Ana, Orange, and Fullerton are open 24 hours, Anaheim until 2:30 am and Lake Forrest location until 1:00 am. So go sing, dance, then eat some tacos!
