They had me at pumpkin donuts. You know Fall is officially here as soon as you see pumpkins all around you. The smell of Starbucks PSL’s (pumpkin spiced lattes), pumpkin everything at Trader Joe’s and what’s left of any empty lots in Orange County have early signs of a pumpkin patch in the making. When we were invited to check out some gourmet pumpkin doughnuts at Poqet Donuts (pronounced “pocket”) in Irvine, we couldn’t think of a better way to enjoy some Fall vibes.
Pumpkin Cheesecake Donut paired with Pumpkin Latte from Poqet (mmmmm…)
Poqet’s Pumpkin Cheesecake Donut is to die for. It is everything you’d imagine and even sweeter. If you love pumpkin, then you will really love it! What grabbed us was not just the pumpkin donut, but all the other flavors available too: Maple Bacon, Campfire (think s’mores), Nutella, Lemon Meringue, Butter Salt, Apple Pie, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Cookies and Cream, Pistachio Creme Brûlée and yes, a Vegan Samoa to name a few. The list is huge & yummy. You can even customize your gourmet doughnut. Build your own by picking the type of doughnut (glazed, chocolate cake, vanilla cake or vegan), the type of filling (creams and butters, fresh fruit or jams) and finish it off with a topping of your choice (candies, spices or nuts). Amazing! You can also order your doughnuts online and pickup.
What drinks can you sip with your doughnuts? How about a hand-crafted Pumpkin Latte? If you wanted other coffee drinks, they offer others too. You can enjoy a regular fresh brewed coffee, Americano, espresso, ice blended drinks, hot chocolate or tea. And what? They even serve boba drinks! Boba milk tea and doughnuts is a brilliant pair.
In the Spotlight: MaryAnne Wendt, Videographer & Editor
Looking for vacation video tips? You don’t have to be a professional videographer to create amazing family vacation movies. You just have to capture the highlights and you can create fun music videos! I love walking around with my GoPro camera and shooting our special moments.
Here are a few vacation video tips:
1. SMALL CAMERA FOR ON-THE-GO:
You don’t have to have a fancy DSLR camera. I highly suggest a GoPro. It’s small enough to fit in your purse or pocket. It shoots in 1080p and it comes with a waterproof case for awesome swimming footage! If you have lots of space on your iPhone or other mobile device, the cameras on those are amazing. I just like having a separate camera for shooting video because you will suck your phone battery when doing video. Make sure you have extra batteries already charged and ready to go. Don’t forget to bring your battery charger and charge batteries every night during your trip. Have at least a 32GB memory card and bring an extra one.
The GoPro Hero3 is tiny.
You can get a GoPro Hero 3 for $199.00 on Amazon. The older models might even be cheaper.
If you want the latest and greatest, the GoPro Hero 5 is $399.00.
Jim had a conference in Las Vegas, so we decided to head out with the kids and enjoy some time together. I had a blast entertaining the kids during the day, and enjoyed dining and sightseeing with Jim in the evening. We were very lucky to find a great babysitter to come to our hotel & watch the kids at night. Las Vegas turned out to be an amazing family getaway.
The Hard Rock Hotel
The Hard Rock Hotel is one of our favorite hotels. Rock and Roll blaring though out the entire casino and pools. Everywhere you look, you’ll find all kinds of music memorabilia like signed guitars on the walls and displays of outfits the stars wore at their concerts. Marissa (10) loved Cee Lo’s Swarovski crystal covered jumpsuit and Jessie (4) couldn’t stop looking at Axl Rose’s motorcycle with flames on it.
