Happy New Year!!!! Goodbye 2017. Hello 2018! As we reflect on all the highlights of this past year, we also think about what kinds of things to expect for the New Year. Fitness goals, financial goals, vacation goals, career goals, education goals, all kinds of goals….

One of the most popular New Year’s goals is fitness. How can we achieve this? Daily exercise is key. Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, participating in sports or dance class… anything fun that keeps you moving! There are many options to live an active lifestyle. Most people join a gym. The thing is, you have to actually GO to the gym. Ha ha! Motivation is what will get you out of the house and doing something active. 

22 hard courts at Racquet Club Irvine

We recently came across an opportunity to check out the Racquet Club of Irvine. It’s more than just a tennis club. Not only are the tennis offerings a plenty, there’s racquetball courts, a fitness center, swimming pool and locker rooms with dry and wet saunas and massage services available. The restaurant, Top Spin Bar and Grill  provides a variety of food options, drinks, and even smoothies.

You could spend the whole day at the Irvine Racquet Club. Get your exercise, shower and grab a meal. If you work on the go, bring a laptop and get some work done there too! Child care services are also available. 

6 clay courts available for a softer surface

The tennis facility has 28 courts including 6 clay courts, lessons, clinics and match arranging so that you can set up a court time with a player of your skill level, and junior tennis programs.

Head Tennis Pro Greg Holmes is spearheading the educational series. He played on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour for 8 years, ranking #22 in the world in singles and #66 in doubles. While on tour Greg had wins over top ten ranked players such as Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, Guillermo Villas, Mats Wilander to name a few. He has lost to many top ten players such as John McEnroe, Even Lendl, Boris Beaker and Pete Sampras. Greg was Semi-finalist at Pilot Penn Classic in La Quinta, Semi-finalist at the Seiko Super Tennis Honolulu, reached the Round of 16 for three straight years at the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows, has won the NCAA Singles Championships and won the Pan American Singles Championships Gold Medal. He has won three professional doubles titles during his career. He is an awesome instructor and we were so lucky to have to opportunity to take a lesson with him! 

The Racquet Club of Irvine will be holding a Beginner Tennis Series starting on January 6th. The lessons are for those who’ve never played tennis and for those who have not played in a long time. Each class will be 45 minutes of instruction followed by 45 minutes of free play. It’s a 6 week session starting on January 6th – February 10th. Cost is $15/class, pre-paid $90. Child care will be available onsite. Beginner Tennis classes are open to non-club members. Beginner classes will be held on Tuesdays 9am, Tuesdays 6pm, and Saturdays at noon.
