The Lido Theater in Newport Beach elicits charm and class. Especially during the holidays. Let’s get this holiday started! All the malls are decked out, lights are going up around the neighborhood, and holiday music is playing on KOST. And really, we need every single day that we can get to squeeze in all the fun activities around town and beyond! Between our two families, we have so many holiday traditions, new and old, we’re lucky we’re not starting up in June!
So we recently attended a showing of Bad Moms 2 at the Lido Theater in Newport Beach. I guess it can be loosely categorized as a holiday movie; hmmm…we have Christmas party, drunken moms, stripper Santas, and mall Santa with same drunken moms. This is not a review for the movie Bad Moms, although it’s pretty funny and a great excuse to get together with the girls and drink at the movies. However, we really enjoyed the charm of an old school local movie theater experience. The iconic Lido Theater stands at the entrance for Lido Island, with it’s splash of holiday lights all around. Recently restored, the Lido is a single screen theater that reminds us of old Hollywood, with its art deco architectural style, velvet curtain, and a rare balcony.
The Lido will be showing It’s A Wonderful Life, Friday, December 15 through Thursday, December 21, at 7pm nightly, and also 1pm matinees on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday, December 17. On Saturday, December 16 at 6pm, come for the movie and a visit with Santa, enjoy carolers, and complimentary hot cocoa before the 7pm movie show time. We are excited to add this to our many traditions during this season. Our kiddos have not seen this holiday classic, so what a great way for their first viewing – time to introduce them to the original Scrooge, don’t you think? Plus, I think they will enjoy sitting atop the the theater in the balcony seats.
The Lido Theater is located in Via Lido Plaza at 3459 Via Lido Way in Newport Beach, just at the entrance of Lido Island, which by the way is such a great spot for watching the annual boat parade (more on this in a separate post). There are many eating options nearby such as Bear Flag Fish Company, Z Pizza, and Woody’s Diner. So grab some dinner, take a stroll, and catch a the holiday movie classic at Lido Theater.
We would love to hear some of your favorite holiday traditions and fav spots!
