Sometimes I get a mean craving for Thai food. When that happens, my go-to place is Wheel of Life in Irvine. The best part for me is that it’s vegan. This is one of the few restaurants that I’ve come across that offers meat substitutes of surprisingly good texture and flavor.
Whether you are a vegan/vegetarian or meat eater, Wheel of Life is sure to please all types of palates. My family’s favorite dishes are the Pad Thai, Orange Chicken, and Beef Brocolli. For a special treat on nights when no one feels like cooking, I’ll order takeout and enjoy dinner at home. You might have to double order the Orange Chicken. At my home, that dish is the first to go! If I plan ahead, I make rice at home. On spur of the moment nights, I’ll order rice with my takeout. If you have a large family, I recommend ordering extra everything as their portions are on the small side.
If you wanted to dine in, the restaurant is a little small. It’s a mom and pop kind of place with a few booths and tables. On a typical weekday, it’s not too crowded. But on a Friday and Saturday night, you may have to wait for a table. When vegan restaurants are crowded, I have to admit, it makes me happy. (Fun fact: If you notice a cute little girl ice skating on the TV, that’s the owner’s granddaughter. They keep her videos looping in the restaurant all day. I love how proud they are of her!)
They also have Cashew Chicken, Spring Rolls, Chow Mein, Spicy Crispy Chicken, Steamed Buns, Pineapple Fried Rice and other items. I noticed chocolate cake and other desserts in the display case, too. I have yet to try their other dishes because I always go back and order my favorites.
For a refreshing beverage, the dairy-free Thai Iced Tea is a must-have to pair with your meal!
Vegetarian or not, I hope you give this place a try. Enjoy!
Note: If you have nut allergies, please consult with your server. They also have soy-free options if you have any soy restrictions.
